Carlos Costa is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at ISEG (Lisbon School of Economics and Management), University of Lisbon, since September 2017. He holds a PhD in Information Sciences and Technologies in the field of Information Systems and Databases from ISCTE. Carlos is a member of IEEE and ACM, and he is also the chair of EuroSIGDOC/ACM. His research interests include Information Systems Theory, especially in the area of Gamification, Business Applications of Data Science, and Programming Learning.

S1E5 - José Pereira - Magic

Born in 1994, with Scorpio ascendant, José discovered the art of illusion at the age of 15. What he saw fascinated him, but what he didn’t see intrigued him even more. That was enough for him to never put down the decks of cards.
He made his mark in 2016 at the International Championship of Magic in Rimini FISM (Fédération Internationale des Sociétés Magiques) and has participated in the Blackpool Magic Convention since 2013.
In 2018, he introduced the world to Magic Tailors, the first tailoring company for magicians, which he founded and leads.
His first theatrical experience took place between 2012 and 2014 at the Oficina de Teatro da Covilhã, coordinated by Pedro da Silva and Fernando Landeira, and promoted by Teatro das Beiras. In 2014, he participated in the visual and sound installation Rua Direita que Finalmente se Entorna, conceptualized and coordinated by Madalena Victorino and Rafaela Santos, as part of the Viseu Festival.
More recently, in 2021, he premiered his first monologue, Era Uma Vez Um Homem (Once Upon a Man), directed by Pedro da Silva, with set design by Zé Tavares and text by João Nuno Azambuja.
His first dance experience occurred in 2014 with the show Nós - Isto é o Meu Corpo (Us - This is My Body), choreographed by André Mesquita and performed at Teatro Viriato. In 2020, he participated in Gabo, a piece choreographed by Patrick Murys for the company “Dançando com a Diferença.”
With Trigo Limpo Teatro ACERT, he has been actively collaborating in illusionism consulting and has participated in the scenographic process of JUDAS since 2015.
As an illusionist, José has 11 years of professional experience and has performed in over 2,000 shows in Portugal and abroad. In 2021, he was one of 12 European artists selected for Boosting European Trends and Artists in Circus Arts.

Marine Antunes is much more than a cancer survivor. Since feeling the urgency to communicate and share her story using her favorite tool – humor – she hasn’t stopped. As the creator of the pioneering project Cancro com Humor (Cancer with Humor), she has been helping cancer patients (both nationally and internationally) through her books, motivational talks, and creative initiatives.
Regarding writing, in addition to her several Cancro com Humor books, she published the humorous Teorias de uma Not Atinadinha (Theories of a Not-so-Good Girl) and her latest, Manual para Descomplicar o Cancro (Manual for Simplifying Cancer). As a columnist, she has worked for Jornal i and ZEN Energy magazine.
In 2013, Marine was awarded the Young Inspirer and Extraordinary Women prizes. Since 2018, she has brought her knowledge to the stage, delivering talks not only to cancer patients but also to healthcare professionals in Portugal, Cape Verde, Brazil, and Luxembourg.
She also participated in initiatives such as Health Parliament and Cancer: Every Day Counts. From Priority to Action, which had the support of the High Patronage of the President of the Republic. Alongside her husband, actor and comedian Tiago Castro, Marine co-created the project If You Can Dream It, You Can Achieve It, aimed at young audiences, reaching over 18,000 young people with great success.
After participating in the national campaign Cancer Without Taboos, Marine hosted the Gold Ribbon Awards in Brussels, an event honoring professionals who stood out in pediatric oncology.
She launched the digital project Manual para Descomplicar o Cancro (Manual for Simplifying Cancer), designed for cancer patients and caregivers. Supported by Visão magazine, it led to the publication of her fourth book, also titled Manual para Descomplicar o Cancro.
In 2021, Marine hosted the program Na Minha Pele (In My Skin), supported by Uriage, where she interviewed public figures connected to the theme, such as TV host Jorge Gabriel, athlete Aurora Cunha, and designer Miguel Vieira.
Marine Antunes is arguably the most prominent advocate for this cause. She has been featured in numerous TV reports and programs, including As Guerreiras (The Warriors) with Alexandra Borges and O Mapa do Cancro (The Cancer Map), award-winning reports from the Portuguese League Against Cancer.
She is also a moderator at various congresses, including the National Oncology Congress. Currently, Marine is the host and creator of the series True Power, where she talks to cancer patients who, despite their diagnoses, are happy. This series, which has won over audiences, is now available on YouTube.
